Ep.33 - on Business: Starting a Business, Pt.2 [6-Month Update]

Ep.33 - on Business: Starting a Business, Pt.2 [6-Month Update]

November 12, 2019

Exactly 6 months ago, on May 12th 2019, we released an episode called "on First Jobs & Starting a Business" (we've slightly changed the title, but it's still episode 8 if you're interested). Every six months, we're going to release an episode that gives you an update on where Millennial Mission Media stands, how it has evolved, and everything we've learned about owning & operating a business in the intervening months. This time, that means learning how to deal with (and grow from) failure, obtaining our first clients, and managing expectations in a constantly changing world.

As might be expected, there are tangents about Generation Alpha, how social media is playing a role in human evolution, and how watching Gordon Ramsay can help you be a better business owner.

Ep.32 - on Media: V for Vendetta (2005)

Ep.32 - on Media: V for Vendetta (2005)

November 5, 2019

It's the 5th of November, and we don't know when the next time that date will coincide with an episode release date is, so we're doing "V for Vendetta"!

Amber & Justin discuss how strangely similar the dystopian future the film presents is to the world of today. Justin tangents about his history of the film before Amber leads them down a path of actor bios, favorite scenes, and powerful moments. Don't worry, there are Beyonce references.

V for Vendetta is produced by The Wachowskis, directed by James McTeigue, & starring Hugo Weaving & Natalie Portman.

Oh... and at the end? It's "Festivus." Justin forgot the name "Festivus." Please don't write us angry emails!

Ep.31 - on Gender: Body Hair

Ep.31 - on Gender: Body Hair

October 29, 2019

Body Hair! Society says women aren't supposed to have it, and men are! But that's not how we do things here on A New Perspective. This episode in particular was inspired by the fact that while Amber-Tiana has been growing out her hair in defiance of the rules, Justin shaved all of his body hair off because he just likes the way it feels.

After a brief rundown of Amber & Justin's various experience with body hair over their lives, they run down the body from head to toe to talk about where our hair grows and why we do what we do with it. We also divulge into conversations revealing a whole lot of personal information so... be prepared!

Ep.30 - on Gender: Men Wearing Makeup & Beauty Vlogging [GUEST: Christian Glam Lopez, Makeup Artist & Beauty Vlogger]

October 21, 2019

Chances are, if you've grown up in the United States, you were told for most of your life that boys aren't supposed to wear makeup; that it's for girls. Our guest on this week's A New Perspective proves that the stereotype is untrue, and that men can make successful careers as makeup vloggers & influencers online. Christian Glam Lopez joins us to talk about how his life as an influencer began (on Tumblr, no less!), how he first got into doing makeup (later than you'd imagine!), and when he was finally able to quit his serving jobs to do makeup full-time.

Ep.29 - on Media: Booksmart (2019)

Ep.29 - on Media: Booksmart (2019)

October 15, 2019

We don't cover movies very often anymore, so when we do, you know it's because we have a good reason, and this time we definitely DO. 2019 gave us a potentially "all-time greatest" comedy called Booksmart.

Booksmart is the kind of movie that only comes around once every few years. It's the high school comedy that transcends its own genre and betrays stereotypes, helmed by the brilliant Olivia Wilde, and led by two of our generation's next biggest stars: Kaitlyn Dever & Beanie Feldstein.

Ep.26 - on Science: Beekeeping [GUEST: Rachel Woodhouse, Beekeeper/Comedian/Actor/Rock Painter]

September 22, 2019

We've read the articles & we've seen the stories: bees are important! But how much do we actually know about how bees function? Amber & Justin realized that they knew very little and wanted to know more. Thankfully, one of Justin's longtime friends Rachel Woodhouse is a beekeeper!

Whether you've studied bees in your biology class or you're as much of a newbie as we were, there's something to be learned in this episode of A New Perspective, all about beekeeping (with a brief aside about rock painting)!

We discuss the difference between male and female bees, the various jobs a bee will perform during a full life cycle, why bees will turn on (and murder) their queen, how expensive it is to get started as a beekeeper, and so much more!

Actor Rose Marie Guess joins the show to discuss how her own high school experience differs from the characters on the show, but also which characters she most relates to. Then, school psychologist Eric Gallegos comes on to discuss warning signs for children with mental illness, what he loves about the show, and where he thinks they may have gotten a few things wrong.

Whether you've seen the show or not, there's something to be gained in this week's A New Perspective.
