Ep.47 - The Future of STEM Education [GUEST: Katrina Hi’ilani, Researcher at LAVA in Hawaii]

February 18, 2020

Math is hard to teach. Statistically, most people never make it past a 4th grade level of understanding. And yet, we are all capable of learning it.

In their pre-spectives, Justin & Amber discuss how math education has changed and why most people believe they are incapable of learning math, despite it being very, very possible. Then Amber speaks with Katrina Hi'ilani from Hawai’i about her work with LAVA (Laboratory for Advanced Visualization & Applications—check them out at www.lavaflow.info), data visualization, VR research, haptic feedback, & her experience as a math teacher before joining the team.

Ep.46 - on Relaxation: From NASA to Virtual Reality Spa [GUEST: Micah Jackson, Owner of Esqapes VR Spa]

Ep.46 - on Relaxation: From NASA to Virtual Reality Spa [GUEST: Micah Jackson, Owner of Esqapes VR Spa]

February 11, 2020

After helping throw a VR event for NASA where press & attendees were able to experience walking on Mars's surface, Micah Jackson realized Virtual Reality was the field where he wanted to build his business. He was selected to be a part of an Oculus training program, where his project was selected as one of only 10 (out of over a hundred potential projects) to be fully funded by the program. That project was an exercise in empathy: a short film wherein the viewer would experience what it is like to live as a black man in America.

Now, Micah has started a business that's the absolute first of its kind: A Virtual Reality Spa, where you can relax, get a massage, and orbit the Earth... all at the same time.

If you're in Los Angeles, be sure to check out Esqapes VR Spa (www.MyEsqape.com) in the SAG-Aftra Building!

After the interview, Amber & Justin offer A New Perspective before wrappin up with Millennial Scholar. This week, Amber found an article from www.LiveScience.com about some of the ways VR may play a role in changing the face of nearly every industry in the very near future.

Not wanting to permanently damage his spine, he decided to try one more thing and tried Hot Yoga. After three months and zero surgeries, he was able to do something he was told would be impossible: Dance at his wedding.

Josh joins Justin & Amber on the podcast to talk about his wellness journey, what he's learned about the science behind the healing nature of yoga, and how he learned to live his life intentionally. Whether you're already a yoga student or you're skeptical of the whole thing, Josh is here to tell you about his personal healing and recovery journey.
